FREE BREADMAKING WORKSHOP! April 24-25

Have you always wanted to make sourdough bread, but didn’t know where to start? It seems we all have some time on our hands these days, so maybe this is a good time to try!

Shelly Tomlinson of Been Jammin’ Bread, Lovettsville, will be conducting a Facebook Live workshop on our Facebook page that begins on Friday, April 24, 2020.

In early 2019, she began making sourdough bread as a hobby that quickly became a small business. Her popular music-themed crusty loaves of Jammin’ bread have been available through several area locations ever since. While her commercial bread production has temporarily ceased, Shelly would like to share her method for making Swingin’ Sourdough, a country loaf styled after that featured in the California-based bakery Tartine and the famous Tartine Bread cookbook by Chad Robertson (available online if you wish to purchase).

Do you want to participate?   If so, please contact Shelly directly at beenjamminbread@gmail.com. She will provide the list for ingredients and supplies to have ready. For local participants, Shelly will provide starter and details on when and where to pick up before the workshop. Others can watch along if you have your own starter or just want to enjoy the video and bake later.  Sourdough Class Instructions

The class schedule will be as follows:

Friday, April 24:

7:00 pm   We will create the Levain to get things bubbling

Saturday, April 25:

9 am   We will meet to mix together the dough and take the first turn of the dough

2 pm   We will shape our loaves for the final rise

6 pm   We will heat things up by scoring and baking Jammin’ loaves of bread.

ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY Clean Up:  Sunday, May 31, 2 – 4 pm

Adopt-a-Highway Clean Up Postponed to May 31 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and public health guidance. Depending upon the COVID-19 situation, we may need to change the date again.
The public is invited to join the Co-op as we pick up trash on our designated Adopt-A-Highway route along the Berlin Turnpike (from Purcell Rd to the Potomac River). We will meet at Bonnie’s Country Kitchen parking lot at 2pm. Some preparation suggestions include: wear long pants, long sleeves, sturdy walking shoes and bring insect repellent. The Co-op will provide bags, gloves. grabbers (limited number), and vests. We have collected 201 bags of trash and recyclables since 2013.

NOTE: Due to safety concerns no children under the age of 13 can participate.   Questions? Email: info@lovettsville-grocery.com

Hope to see you there!

Annual Farmer’s Feast Postponed!

We are postponing our annual Farmer’s Feast at Market Table Bistro until a future time when we all receive clearance from the Centers for Disease Control and local governments that we can safely resume normal social activities.  In the meantime, consider patronizing our local businesses through carry out and other ways that maintain social distancing.

Stay tuned for future Co-op plans on our Instagram and Facebook postings and here, on our new website.

Please stay safe and healthy!
