$60,000 Grant Awarded to LCM!

We are happy to announce that we have received a $60,000 grant from the Loudoun Economic Development Authority that was approved by a unanimous vote of the Loudoun Board of Supervisors this past Tuesday, September 20.  This is an amazing show of support for what our Co-op is bringing to our community–a community owned grocery cooperative focusing on locally grown produce, meats and other products.  Having a locally owned grocery store means that more money stays in our community through purchases from our local producers and vendors; providing more local employment; and catering to the interests and needs of our community. The LCM Board has worked tirelessly to make the case to our Board of Supervisors about the importance of the Co-op and benefits to western Loudoun County.  It is an exciting time as we continue moving forward to opening in Spring 2023.  Thank you to everyone who has supported us through your memberships and member loans!

Please join the Lovettsville Co-op for the annual spring clean-up of our VDOT Adopt-A-Highway route along the Berlin Turnpike, from Purcell Rd to the Potomac River bridge.  Bags, vests, and gloves will be provided.  VDOT signage will be posted to alert drivers. Please meet at the empty lot next to the Bridge End gas station (just before the Potomac River) at 2pm. Since 2013, the Co-op has collected 269 bags of trash and recyclables along our adopted route.  Due to safety concerns, no volunteers under the age of 16 are permitted.

Suggested dress: long pants, work shoes/boots, hats.

This is also a perfect opportunity for any high school students (age 16 and older) looking for community volunteer credits!

Once again, our thanks to Laura Lieberman who organized this years ago and continues to head up this worthwhile ongoing community activity!

ANNUAL MEETING

Our Annual Meeting was held via GoToMeeting on Thursday, February 24 at 7:00 p.m.  Folks on our mailing list (members and non-members) received an invite link.

The agenda was:

  1. Introduction of the 2022 Board of Directors
  2. Membership status updates
  3. Update on Financials and the status of the Capital Campaign
  4. Introduction of our Interim General Manager
  5. Update on the design and status of our grocery store
  6. Presentation by Gary Large, developer of Lovettsville Town Commons
  7. Wrap up and questions

We know that the number one question is “When will we be opening our grocery store?”  With delays encountered by the developer and equipment supply chain challenges, we have to move the opening from the 4th quarter, 2022, to first quarter, 2023.  We discussed the factors in this decision and addressed questions at our meeting.

A video of the meeting will be included soon.
